| | The Portal for Radiology and Imaging related sites |
|---|
This site is being developed for use by radiologists. Many portal and other sites offer links to other sites. Most of them have long lists of sites which when visited give further long lists of sites to visit. The radport.com site is about about providing sites with useful content. (except where a site is explicitly listed as a link/portal)
Software tools have been developed to automate some aspects of searching for radiology related sites on the internet and to store information about these sites in a large database. All sites are reviewed and graded by a radiologist (DJP). The opinions expressed are entirely my own but are intended to give some indication of the content and quality of the web site and its overall value to a general clinical radiologist.
There are some incredibly good radiology sites available on the internet to use, free of charge, and without login registration. There are also many poor sites which are difficult to use, slow, cluttered with multiple adverts and with content of questionable value. Some sites also have time consuming login procedures. I have tried to sort the wheat from the chaff and give a broad indication of the most useful reference sites for clinical radiologists. The web sites have been assessed using a broadband connection and it is possible some may be rather slow using a conventional modem. I am an english radiologist and there will invevitably be some UK bias to the reviews and suggested links but I would hope that the listings are of value to all radiologists.
The main prinicples of the site are as follows:-
1. It should concentrate almost exclusively on sites which have useful content rather than lists of other links.
2. It should be regularly updated.
3. It should be easy to use.
4. Each site is given a review and grade to help the user decide which sites may be useful to visit.
5. The indexing to the content of each site is updated weekly, dead links are also resolved on a weekly basis.
The grades given to a site range between * and ***** (best - in yellow) to give some kind of indication of The overall value of the site to a radiologist in clinical practice. Those sites given five stars are considered to be exceptional and always worth looking at. Occasionally web sites which have been exceptionally well implemented but are of less value on a day to day basis have also been given the highest grade. Sites with lower grading still have many useful features and many are outstanding for the purposes they were designed. Many other sites have been reviewed and added to a large reference database but not included in the listings on radport.com because they are not felt to be good enough. At the last count over 2000 sites have been reviewed and, of these, 136 are listed on radport.com The database of useful radiology sites is continually being added to
The site is continually being developed and reviewed links are added on a regular basis
